Auditions for "Maggie's getting married", 2nd audition date

Monday, January 30, 2017 - 18:30
St Ursula's Church, Jubiläumsplatz 2, Bern

We are happy to be staging a wonderful romantic comedy with great dialogues, a play in which Canadian playwright Norm Foster has blended comedy and drama in portraying a family on the evening before a daughter's wedding.

Maggie’s Getting Married by Norm Foster

will be directed by Jillian Hattersley

Way to go Maggie!
Or is it….? Just back from the wedding rehearsal, and now everyone has an opinion!?
In this touching romantic comedy, we eavesdrop on the Duncan family as their kitchen becomes the hub where each family member takes a turn having their say. We are privy to honest talks that reveal how everyone is really feeling about the big day ahead. We hear Maggie’s parents reflect on their marriage, the realities of getting older, and the uncertainty that lies ahead; we witness two sisters catching up as sisters do, obviously close, though opposite in temperament and personality; we learn how the sisters' rivalry has affected their lives, and finally, we observe the dream begin to crumble as Maggie's older sister discovers that she knows the groom a little better than Maggie would like her to…..!

There are two auditions dates: Thursday 26th and Monday 30th January, at 18.30

  • Maggie Duncan – the bride-to-be (or not); between 25 and 35, the good girl; rule follower, unlike sister Wanda; sweet, smart, slightly insecure.
  • Wanda Duncan – older than Maggie; has a lot of experience with men but is still single; loves, but is baffled by, her buttoned-up sister.
  • Cass Duncan – mother of Maggie and Wanda; capable, but frazzled; balancing her concerns about her marriage’s future with her “hostess-with-the-mostest” neuroses.
  • Tom Duncan – father of Maggie and Wanda; a wealthy dentist; deadpan; going through a minor mid-life crisis.
  • Russell – the groom-to-be; a real estate agent; somewhat smarmy, but is actually quite sincere, if nervous.
  • Axel – Wanda’s current man, an actor; a little unsure how he ended up at this wedding; seemingly afraid of women.
