Loot, by Joe Orton

Thursday, December 7, 2017 - 19:00
St. Ursula's Church, Bern

Hal and Dennis, a duo of young thieves, just robbed a bank. But where to hide the money ? By chance, Hal’s mother recently died and so the two men decide to put the money in her coffin. All is right in the world until inspector Trustcott arrives on the scene. Hal and Dennis, with the help of Nurse McMahon, will try to keep the police off their trail, while Hal’s father, Mr. McLeavy, mourns the loss of both his wife and the British establishment.

First performed in 1965, Loot is one of Joe Orton’s most well known plays. As subersive and irreverent as the author himself, it denounces religious hypocrisy, police corruption, and the inversion of moral values.
